Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of brain development disorders. Autism spectrum disorders have symptoms including social interaction problems, repetitive behaviors, and poor verbal skills. ADS affects roughly 1 in 150 American children, with almost 75 percent of them being boys. ASD disorders range from severe (autism) to mild (Asperger’s syndrome). There is currently no cure for autism and, for reasons unknown, the condition is becomming more prevalent in recent years. One explanation for the increase in diagnosis of autism includes increased public awareness for the condition, better diagnstic practices, and more support services. A theory as to the cause of the condistion is that the social parts of the brain are underdeveloped in ASD.
